Progress has been made & we have storage!! You have no idea how excited this makes me to be able to get our things off the floor.

When we first toured this house, this room had a small closet and was being marketed as a 4th bedroom. But in order to move the laundry to the 2nd floor, we took that closet out. We knew this room was never going to be a bedroom (you could mayyyybe have a twin bed in the corner) & laundry on the same level as the bedrooms was a no brainer!
So, if we wanted any storage shelving seemed like the best option. This room will keep all of the normal office clutter like paperwork, printer, & all that. But also I will store other household stuff that needs a home like wrapping paper, hanging supplies, & all the little things that seem to accumulate faster than you would ever guess.

To make these shelves we purchased 3 8’ long 1x12 aspen boards from our local Menards store. Yes, this project was a “we” thing with my very helpful husband! We painted them in Alabaster to match the trim and cut them to size. We chose boards instead of the finished MDF shelving Menards had to ensure they were better quality. Aspen is a softer, more even-toned wood that is really easy to paint and didn't require any sanding or priming.
I originally wanted to purchase floating shelves online because there are some really pretty ones, but quickly learned this projects budget would go from $200 to $3000+. If you are in the market for floating shelves these and these were some I thought were so beautiful. Maybe someday I will upgrade to the big floating shelves, but for now all I care about is having storage!

I love brass, so I knew a pop of brass in the shelf brackets was going to be the perfect touch.
While, I am NOT a DIYer, this project was so satisfying to do ourselves. I think my husband feels the same, but I will probably wait to ask him for a couple weeks!
Now I have a place to keep all of our things (aka JUNK!) while I keep going on this room. Next up: Window shades!
